The Assessment of Environmental Impact of the Chicken Meat Agroindustry in Indonesia: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Perspective

Chicken meat agroindustry is one of the industries that contribute to environmental impacts. The impacts are due use resources, energy, and waste along chicken chain. This study aimed evaluate life cycle chain from cradle-to-grave using a assessment (LCA) approach. data inventory consisted inputs outputs five sub-systems: feed production, broiler production on farm, carcass at slaughterhouse, supplier distribution, consumer use. impact categories included global warming, acidification, eutrophication. process calculation used CML-IA (Centre Environmental Science Leiden University Impact Assessment) baseline method SimaPro software. results showed consuming 1 kg fried resulted in warming 5.86 CO 2 eq, acidification 38.3 g SO eutrophication 24.1 PO 4 3- eq. Feed litter, energy usage were most significant contributors Improvement scenarios reducing crude protein feed, composting installing inverters refrigeration compressors, electrical efficiency. present indicated importance entire improve performance Indonesian agroindustry.
